A CLI that deploys isolated database containers over SSH and Docker. No Kubernetes, no cloud lock-in. Published on npm as @weirdscience/dbx.
dbx init writes a config. dbx up starts a MongoDB or PostgreSQL container on your VPS with generated credentials. dbx url prints the connection string.
It handles several environments such as dev, staging and production, allocates ports automatically to avoid conflicts, backs up and restores, and syncs state between your machine and the server.
The requirements are Node.js, a VPS with Docker, and SSH key authentication. Lexis uses dbx to provision its MongoDB.
